Reminder: Gender Salon: Honor Killings in Kurdistan tomorrow
Please join us on Thursday, November 3rd at noon in the Board Room for a conversation with Lori Mason as she discusses her research and work on honor killings and women in Kurdistan. Lunch will be served at noon. Please RSVP to Michelle if you have not done so already.
In preparation for the conversation, please take a few minutes to view Lori’s short piece she wrote for a newspaper in Kurdistan that focuses on several themes we will discuss (see: attached).
In addition to the article, feel free to review the following websites:
b. http://www.kwrw.org/ (Lori mentioned that the roundup of news stories/accounts of violence here is very revealing)
c. http://www.stophonourkillings.com/?q=taxonomy/term/48
Finally, please view this YouTube documentary for additional background on women in Iraq and Kurdistan:
During the salon we hope to flesh out the nuances of women’s’ and men’s roles in honor killings throughout the region of the Arab world.
We look forward to a lively discussion.
